These days many people, even the older amongst us, own a smartphone and/or iPad or tablet computer. Increasingly we rely on it for emails, messages, contacts, and other apps (getting around by maps, searching via Google, photos, calendars etc.)
Sometimes we only realise how dependent we are on these devices when it comes to getting a new one, either by necessity (failure of old one, app refusing to work on old version), or by choice to get the newest, shiniest item.
Theoretically it should be straightforward as most of them have software to facilitate transfer of your data from the existing gadget to the new one. If both are reasonably up to date (say 3-5 years old) it usually works well. However, sometimes the older device is not compatible either through age or by difference in type to the new one – then it gets complicated.
Don’t despair there’s usually a way to achieve what you need, but it is often more involved than you would like. You just need to look online for advice, or failing that contact the Digital Life to help you out.
